Spring is in the air—which ‘normally’ means baseball and softball season! And while this isn’t a typical year of team practices and playing fields, it is a good time to continue practicing your own personal swinging skills or helping your kids practice theirs. Hitting is arguably the hardest thing to do in all of sports, so practice is essential. Try these tips out, and hopefully better batting will become of it. Bonus: You don’t have to have a bat to practice these. So if you don’t already have a bat, you don’t have to go to the store to get one. A short PVC pipe, broomstick, or whiffle ball bat all will work. Dry swings are always a great start to practice, but once you’re ready, you can take your pick of regular baseballs, softballs, whiffle balls, or even bottle caps to try and hit a moving object. Practice is essential but so is having fun so get out there, get hitting, and get to having a good time!

  1. Positioning (stance)
  2. Soft step
  3. Controlled eyes
  4. Level swing
  5. Balanced finish

A good starting point would be 25-35 swings a session, but if you are having fun and want more, you can practice as long as you would like. Enjoy!
